There are more than 200 known diseases that are transmitted through food. The CDC reports that in the U.S. alone that “Foodborne diseases have been estimated to cause 6 million to 81 million illnesses and up to 9,000 deaths each year.” Many illnesses caused by food are the result of poor food handling which is likely to happen around the holidays when people are cooking new dishes they’re unfamiliar with and especially because they’re cooking large turkeys.

Identity theft hits close to home for me. It was only a few years ago that a family member’s social security number was used by someone in a respected profession to obtain a credit card. Fortunately, this issue was caught pretty quickly, thanks to the credit card company’s rule of activating the credit card only from the applicant’s phone.

I got an email that was floating around and didn’t pay much attention to it. Then it hit my local news. The story, turns out, is true. This isn’t one of those crazy emails that no one knows if it is true. This lady has been contacted by our police and our local news.
