January 13, 2009 by Karen Weideman

KB Toys recenty announced that they are no longer accepting its gift cards.  Don’t throw out your gift cards yet though.  There is good news for those of you that still have gift cards for KB Toys.  Cardholders can exchange their KB Toys gift card for a coupon valid for 15% off any one item at Toys “R”Us from now until January 31, 2009.  The gift card exchange can be made at Toys ”R”Us stores’ Guest Service Center.

KB Toys Gift Cards must be surrendered at time of purchase, and only one 15% Toys”R”Us coupon will be granted per gift card surrendered. The 15% Toys”R” Us coupon cannot be combined with any other “R”Us offer for the same item and excludes diapers, formula, Bugaboo, videogame hardware, Apple iPods, RobotGalaxy merchandise, computer laptops, gift cards, Kiddie Kandids, Motherhood Maternity, Buyer Protection Plan, assembly fee, breast pump rental fee, delivery fee, and shipping & handling.  KB Toys stores are operated by KB Toys, Inc. and are not affiliated with Toys”R”Us.

Now that’s just not right! People paid money for those gifts cards, and having to exchange them for a 15% off coupon means they could lose quite a bit of money in the exchange! A better solution would have been to stop selling them but still accept the ones that have already been issued. The way they are doing it is nothing less than stealing.

Revka: KB Toys is no longer accepting their gift cards, so Toys R Us is offering them a chance to get something for them. The issues with bankruptcy and gift cards is the reason I didn’t give gift cards this year.

  3. Revka says:

Ah, I completely misread ToysRUs and thought KBToys was giving coupons for their own cards.

This makes much more sense. Gotta read slower. :D

  4. Karen says:

No problem. I’m known for doing the same thing. :)

OK – I just stumbled upon your site after cleaning out my wallet and finding nearly $50 in KBtoya gift cards. Is there ANYthing I can get for these? Thanks! Laura

  6. Laura: Unfortunately, I don’t think you’ll be able to get anything for them. You might want to call the Toys R Us headquarters and see if they’ll send you a coupon or something. It would be worth your business if they would extend themselves in this simple way. Good luck.

  7. Thanks for letting us know about this changes. I’m sure it will help a lot of people.
