Unearthing My Office

I cleaned my office today. There was a lot to go through considering I’ve only been working in this room for several months. Originally I worked at the kitchen table and folded up my laptop to prepare for meals. After two years of that, I moved to a corner of the dining room and finally my own office. If there’s one thing I learned it’s that the more space I have, the more I spread out.
I’m the girl who can’t throw anything away. Julie from De-Clutter It! would probably run screaming in horror after seeing my basement. It’s not pretty.
Today after finding myself under a sea of promotional folders, business cards, discs and books to reverie, I had enough and tidied up. I recycled lots of stuff. Lots of kindergarten papers and letters from publicists were put out with the newspapers. Any piece of paper with one clean side was put in the scrap paper basket for both my son and I to use. I saved all of the PR folders for my own personal use and recycled their contents. Paper clips, rubber bands, pens and push pins found their way into a small basket.
I’m not sure how long my office will stay tidy, but it sure is nice to have everything where I can find it!
It looks great! I’m curious though – did you forget to turn that picture frame around to face you, or did you mean to leave it faced sideways? LOL!
I can’t throw anything away either. My fiance is constantly telling me that I keep too much especially paper items like catalogs, articles I’ve printed and many recipes. I like your blog, it is very easy to read and informative.
While my office could use a good bombing out (I keep cleaning it up but the clutter never gets banished), I did find a GREAT way to declutter my kitchen and pantry: my oldest son is moving out.
Who’d have thought we had that many cans of tomato soup in the pantry? Do I really need all those untensils in the utensil drawer? Since my son is one of five of us, but uses at least half the towels, the linen closet could use some paring down and we still wouldn’t feel like we lost any towels.
One kid down, two to go. Imagine how clutter free my house will be then!
Good for you! I’m still working from the kitchen, which is so annoying. My kitchen counter becomes a clutter spot. I really need my own office, but we just don’t have the space.
We have a huge basement, which is almost worthless. I can’t go down to the basement to work; not with a 2 year old. My basement needs to be cleaned out too!!!! I’ve been working on it though. I’ve been putting stuff in the Iwanna (a place to list free classified ads) and I’ve made over $500 in 2 months. I’m pleased. Good luck!
