Utilizing Craft Store Coupons

Last week I told you that I am now a subscriber to the Sunday paper. I subscribed because I am now a work-at-home mom and wanted to get the coupons in an effort to save more money on our grocery bill.
Each week in the Sunday paper, there are coupons for A.C. Moore & Michael’s. I have decided to start using these towards Christmas presents for the kids.
My friend Karen told me how much she loves the Crayola Color Wonder for her kids. They take it to church and her kids can color and she doesn’t have to worry about them getting the marker ink on anything but the paper.
I decided that the Crayola Color Wonder would be a great addition to our bag that we take into restaurants and church. Last week I went to Michael’s and used the 50% off coupon that was in the paper to purchase the first Color Wonder. I paid $4.50 for it instead of the usual price of $9. I also told my mom about this idea for the kids and she used her 50% off coupons to purchase extra color wonder tablets at her Michael’s for $3 each (reg $6).
While I was there, I noticed that Michael’s had their 16 oz Rich Art washable paint for 1/2 price, 99 cents each. I picked up three bottles for the kids. Since Cuddlebug isn’t in a preschool program, I’ve been trying to do some art projects with him.
This week Michael’s had a 40% coupon in the paper. I went by there today (while I was out running errands - no gas wasted!!!) and got a Crayola painting tablet for $2.99 instead of the normal $4.99. I also used A.C. Moore’s 40% coupon to get some decorations for cupcakes I was making for a baby shower.
Next week I plan to pick up another color wonder kit. I’ll probably get the Princess one. Then after that in the following weeks, I hope to pick up some things for other children in my extended family.
Do you utilize the weekly craft store coupons?

I have used the Michael’s coupons before for picture frames and craft items. What a great idea to use them on Christmas gifts for kids. Thanks for posting it!
Annie, You’re welcome. Glad you like the idea! Hope you save some money on your Christmas items.
I do use these a lot! I used the 50% off coupon last week on an entire cake decorating set. It was normally $40 and I got it for $20. I thought it would be a great investment for cupcakes and birthday cakes!
Enjoy all of that crafting!
Hey, be a little more thrifty and save more money by not getting the newspaper! If you sign up on the AC Moore website, they will email you coupons frequently. I’m always getting the 50% off ones in my email box. You can print them out as many times as you like. Only one per purchase, but nothing says you can’t come back several times!
That’s how we got our boys the good wooden Thomas trains (post recall, of course!).
Congrats on the cake set Amy.
Susan, I’m mainly getting the Sunday paper for the grocery coupons, but I’m enjoying the craft coupons too.
This isn’t a craft store coupon but I thought I’d let everyone who shops early for Christmas know that Hasbro Toys currently has a coupon code for 25% off your order plus free shipping good until October 8th. Just go to HasbroToyShop.com and use promocode 25FALL during checkout.
One warning about Color Wonder…the pictures do not last. So if your little one makes a brilliant picture, it will fade in a matter of weeks. My son made some adorable pictures that a colleague of mine asked to frame for her office. They didn’t last very long, and we were so disappointed because they were adorable. If you get Color Wonder and the kids crank out the kind of artwork you want to save forever, make sure to color copy it so it will last!
This is my first time on your blog. You have such great tips. I subscribed. WOO HOO! That is such a great idea to use the craft store coupons! I love Michael’s too!
I use the coupons for Michaels and Beverly’s (our local craft store) when there is something that I need to get there. Recently I saw an adorable sign that I would like to have to hang in my daughter’s room in an expensive gift shop. So now I am saving my craft store coupons to get the supplies I need to make her that sign.
I recently had a Michaels Craft store open near me and I am wondering how I can get coupons.I do not receive any newspapers. Does anyone know any other way of receving them?.. email possibly? Does Michaels take A.C. Moore coupons?
Thanks so much!
Our Michaels doesn’t require an actual coupon. If there was a newspaper ad running the previous weekend, they will allow 1 non-coupon percentage off each day, but you have to ask for it at the checkout. My local store will also honor AC Moore and JoAnnes newspaper coupons, but they will NOT honor computer generated competitor coupons, except for their own for Michaels. And you must check with your own local store, not all appear to be that generous. My store puts out a handful of coupon flyers early Sunday morning….they are grabbed up quickly, however, so you have to be an early-bird.
