I couldn’t believe how high gas prices went right after Hurricane Ike. So I took this picture on Saturday. On Sunday, prices stayed put. On Monday, prices went back down to $3.99/gal. Today I paid $3.89/gal. I never thought I would be happy to pay $3.89/gal. It is so sad!

  1. Can you say price gouging? The Attorney General is looking into several allegations of price gouging. I hope he does determine that the companies should be prosecuted. It’s simply wrong when they raise prices so high when they don’t need to.

  2. Kristina says:

Up near me (suburbs of Chicago) it is $4.15 – I don’t want to imagine what it is like in the city!

  3. lindsey says:

They skyrocketed because of mass speculation that Ike was going to destroy a lot more than it did. The refineries are coming back online at a very fast pace and it only effected less than 1% of the total oil platforms in the Gulf.

Also, fuel is under $100 a barrel now…but it probably won’t reflect those prices at the pump for another few weeks while supply gets back up to speed.

Glad it is going down again!

  4. Isn’t it amazing how prices are relative. It’s like house prices… $600,000 is a huge price, but then somehow it starts to be a bargain. Insane. And then well… reality hits and we end up in this messed up economy.
