When A Chance Comes to Save Money on Gas

gasmoneyConsumers like us do not have control over gas prices, at least not directly.  Although natural gas prices can stay steady at good rates with less use (with a good helping of cooperative weather, of course), there is little we can do when need for natural gas increases.  But can gas choice truly give us an advantage, at least for a while?

Dominion Peoples Plus allows its customers to lock in a better price through a price secure program.  Depending on your gas company, you could actually save money per unit of gas you consume.  Dominion Peoples Plus can lower the price at $11.50 for Equitable Gas customers who are currently paying almost $13 per mcf.  Clients of Dominion Peoples Gas can also take advantage of the $0.10 difference from their current $8.43 per unit of gas if they switched.

It’s always a good thing to get a chance to save on gas, but you’ll need to do the math to know if it will do you good in the long run.  If you’ve received an offer from your gas company, you might want to see at what price you’ll be locked in.  If it’s high, there’s really no point to it.

Gas rates also change quarterly, so you’ll have to see if the new lock in price will actually save you money.  Otherwise, you might pay more in the future.

You might also want to take advantage of the cost adjustment if you’re switching.  If it’s low or negative, that is a good thing since you will be paying for that charge for the first year when you switch.

It’s always a good idea to know what your priorities are so that you’ll recognize a good option when it comes.  Decide on gas choice if your need for savings is immediate or temporary.  Otherwise, you might already be saving money on gas with the supplier you’re currently with.
