Where I Work

Ever wonder what your favorite blogger or writer’s office looks like? Do you picture them in an elaborate wood paneled and leathered study? Or perhaps a coffee shop in the city? My office isn’t that interesting. Made up of second hand furniture and discards from our basement, my working space is nice and quiet and away from the hubbub of family life, but close enough that I’m here when I’m needed.
Would you like to see where I work? It’s right here on video.

Awesome to see! My favorite is the dog in the cat bed LOL. This week I am doing a major cleaning because of a bday party this weekend, and in the process I’ve decided to create myself an office instead of using my laptop while propped up in bed (yes, I’m doing that now). So, maybe I’ll get brave and show you mine when I’m done…it’ll be the kid’s toy overflow room also…we’ll see how that goes.
nice…dog in the ca bed huh?
Our dog likes the cats food..and he even meowed once…seriously.
Nice digs!
I like the color of the wall. It looks very comfortable.
Marye – the cats actaully try and eat the dog food!
Thanks Buff and Stephanie. I like the color too – it’s peaceful.
Oh and thanks Star for your comments too.
Coooool. Truth is, I am curious how other writers work and live.
My husband and I started organizing our office tonight, but I write almost exclusively from my chair in the living room. I may have to do something similar one day with the video, but you can sort of see my work space here:

I don’t dress up like that to write normally, but that’s my chair. It’s in a lovely velvet, purple fabric. I got it at T.J. Maxx for about $200, which is more than I though I’d ever spend for a chair, but it’s my favorite color and fits me perfectly (which is super rare because I’m tall and like a very supportive back). It’s been worth every penny because it has sooooo saved my back.
Beside me is an end table. I have actually moved an identical one to the other side. I use the space mostly just to hold drinks like my tetsubin with some green tea and a glass of water. I actually work with my laptop on a lapboard.
BTW, I kept wondering what those Dummies books were — mostly because I’ve had so many of them myself.
So where does the cat sleep? The dog’ s bed?
Fun tour.
Thanks
I like the dog in the cat bed too. My cats can get into the hall closet sometimes and will get their own food. They ate dog food from the dogs bowl if she left anything behind, including dry dogfood. In fact, I had to stop dropping the heartworm pill into the bowl before the dog ate, because one of the cats would eat it up. That’s too expensive to waste on the cat.
Funny how we envision others having a “real” office and we’re the only ones who aren’t “professional”!
My husband (a contractor) built me an office in the basement – good lighting, a decent-sized counter and even a little room to move my chair in & out! For the past 3 years I’ve cluttered it to the max. Just cleaned it out and framed(& hung!!)my college degree (30 yrs later!) and even some certificates and pics of me, family and with some famous people I’ve interviewed! It’s actually beginning to look and most importantly FEEL like a real office.
But there is something to say about having the feel of home in your office – like a dog(even in the cat bed!) and the kids!
Well, I’m glad someone else has a makeshift office. I’ve been calling mine makeshift for months and months, eventually, I’m going to have to do something about it. I like the wall color too. I could never work with all that stuff on the desktop though. I’d be all ADD about.
@Meg – the Dummies books are WordPress for Dummies and Blogging for Dummies. I’ve had the latter for a few years and when I run out of ideas for my blogging blog, I look through it a bit.
@Marjorie – The cats like the beds, or the seat next to me – one of them likes to sleep on the desk or bookshelf.
Dizzy-Ana – I ran out of dog food today and didn’t feel like going to the store so he’s getting cat food for now.
Lisa – I hear ya. Wouldn’t trade this for the world.
Jennifer – I’m jealous of your chair.
Hey Deborah, I love that your dog keeps you company while you work! My cats and dogs do, too.
)
BTW, our greyhound actually purrs!
Fun video! Thanks so much for making it!
I like the box of product samples and notebook of press releases the best. It is a great thing about writing, getting free stuff, but then when you get too much, it just lies around.
