Mary from Miss dilletante’s playground is giving away a book and a cd, she contacted me as the book is called Comfort and as Mary explains
“Ann Hood writes about the searing irrational nature of grief in one of the most profound books I’ve read on the grieving process. This is high praise, because I’ve read a lot of books on the subject as I’ve been wending my way through widowhood.”
And the Carly SImon CD is also significant as recalls receiving it as a gift
“She gave it to me a week after my husband Michael died. It was the perfect collection of lullabyes to salve my wounded heart. I hope the combination will help someone else in their dark night of the soul. It’s not a question of “if” you’ll experience a devastating loss of a loved one–but “when”. What I’ve learned along the way is that we get by with a little help from our friends and the kindness of strangers.”
I thought the giveaway strikes a wonderful chord with us all so hop over and leave a comment, you never know this may be the start of some good luck!

Thank you, Anna, for posting this. I have found Widow’s Quest and your readers so helpful in making my way through (almost) 2 years of widowhood. I read the book over the Christmas holiday, and it struck a chord in me. The book is about Ann Hood’s response to the sudden death of her 5-year-old daughter. I’ve not lost a child (which, I think, would be the ultimate pain), but she writes courageously about the grief journey. Even though it’s a tough read, there is healing and hard-won peace. I found that “Comfort” was the perfect title for the book. Carly Simon’s voice and music is gentle and soothing on the CD.
Hugs,
Mary
Mary it is my pleasure and as for the community, it is superb…..I don’t know what I would have done without them, it is strange that I see so many of the commenters as my “virtual” best friends and I haven’t met them, yet they know me, and I feel they understand me. We all gain strength when other people care, and I am glad that we in some small way have helped you xx
