Widows Quest

Charlies Story – A Fathers Way of Remembering his Daughter

July 13, 2007 by Anna Farmery

I saw an interview with Reg Thompson who lost his daughter to a tragic accident on a rail crossing. He struggled to come to terms with her death and started to write letters to her, to tell her about what was happening in the family’s life. Friends persuaded him to publish the letters which he has in Dear Charlie.charlie.jpg

Since the book has been published it has helped many people grieving to understand the pain, understand that their pain is “normal” and helps people come to terms with death. Charlie was 13 years old and had her future ahead of her. People are now writing her name in various places in the world – taking a photo and sending them to the family. The family see this as a way of Charlie seeing the world as she hoped. You can read more about the story and how they are building her memorial at the Daily Mail.
