Widows Quest

Our Emotional Health

October 19, 2009 by Anna Farmery

Destroyed brickwallIn grief we can isolate ourselves, in grief we can shut the world out, in grief as widows and widowers we can believe that we never want to fall in love again….

When I was coughing away, by myself this weekend, feeling sorry for myself that there was no one in the house just to look after me….(how old am I!) I started to think about connection. When we enter the world we are physically connected with our mothers…we depended on their nourishment in the womb, we depend on their milk, their support and security throughout our childhood.

When you think about it we are hard wired to connect, if we block that desire to connect then are we in the short term blocking the pain but in the long term harming our emotional health?

If we go without water we die…

If we go without food we die

If we go without love….does our soul die?

Anna, I do hope you are on the road to recovery. I’m sure your weakened condition this weekend was the root of your post today. Even though we all couldn’t be there with you I know we were all there in spirit. I was wishing I could pop over with a pot of chicken soup! I feel as you do that we are hard wired to connect. It is very difficult to open yourself up when you have experienced such a traumatic loss as we all have. I hope that someday, when we are ready, we can all find a special connection with another human being, whether it be just as a good friend or something more. As you wrote, the human connection is important to our emotional health. I believe that emotional health is just as important as physical health in order to live life to its fullest. Take care, Anna.
    Love,
    Leslie

Leslie – thank you and yes, starting to feel a little stronger. Still feeling tired but a lot less achy…

I so valued everyone’s best wishes…when you are feeling tired and unwell it really picks you up.

Maybe you are right…maybe I start thinking about emotional health when you are physically not well.

I must admit that I miss that closeness…I am a piscean and therefore born to romantic! …..some days I just ache for someone to hold me…but then most days some one isn’t enough it needs to be the “one”

Thanks again Leslie I will be firing on all cylinders again in the next couple of days…xxxx
