My Mum’s Birthday

It is my mum’s birthday today, so she is staying with me and I remain so proud of the way she has coped since Dad died. Her health has not been wonderful but she is really trying to piece together a new life. She is 77 today and could so easily have said “I have nothing left to live for”. However she has
- Joined a local village group that meets each Thursday for coffee.
- Started to play bowls.
- Been on a couple of cruises – Dad didn’t really like the idea of cruises so this is a real treat for her.
- Learned to do things around the house, including driving the ride on lawn mower!
She still has tears in her eyes when we talk about Dad, but she has learned to enjoy a very different life. I asked her how
she has found the strength. She shared 2 reasons which I think may help others.
- She saw the effect of losing Dad on my sister and I. She wants to live as long as possible to help us through and also to watch over us.
- Dad loved her very much and would have wanted, indeed trusted that she would live on….she feels that he is willing her each day.
