Over at Islandpacket there is an interesting article on dealing with grief during the holiday season. Here is a little snippet but they also suggest 3 sources of reading which I thought I would list here for anyone really suffering with grief. I will post my thoughts later in the week but always remember that this blog is here for you, if you are alone this Christmas or feel isolated, then come to Widows Quest and write about your feelings – sometimes writing helps you to cope with the emotions and also it shows that you are not alone, we are all here for you.

Have some kind of plan “Spend time with friends, family or loved ones, but have an escape. It’s OK to accept invitations, but only accept the ones that don’t feel like an obligation. Drive yourself to holiday parties, so you can leave when you need to leave.”

Don’t isolate yourself “The day doesn’t go away. It’s here and it’s happening. A group setting is conducive to healing.”

Create a new tradition

“If you don’t want to be home for the holidays, go on a trip or do something for yourself that removes you from your regular routine and setting.”

Read Suggested resources for support and helpful advice when dealing with grief during the holidays:

•”Holiday Hope, Remembering Loved Ones During Special Times of the Year,” a book by the Editors of Fairview Press; available at Amazon.com for $10.95.

•Willowgreen.com, a Web site by James Miller, an author, clergyman, grief counselor and workshop leader in Fort Wayne, Ind.

•www.nhpco.org, a Web site for the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization

Welcome to the August 5, 2007 edition of positive thinking.

Maria Palma presents A Journey From Negativity to Positivity posted at The Good Life, saying, “Discover the beauty in everything and realize that for every setback, obstacle, or tragedy that happens in our lives, something positive comes from it.”

Anna presents What Motivates You? posted at The Engaging Brand

Kara-Leah Masina presents Pain will always exist – but suffering is optional posted at K-L Masina, saying, “Life will always contain pain – physical pain, emotional pain and mental pain. Acceptance of this pain, and allowing this pain to be what it is in our life does not mean however that we need to suffer. Suffering is different from pain – it is the story we weave in our minds about the pain event. And it’s completely optional.”

Tupelo Kenyon presents Don’t Take it Personally posted at Tupelo Kenyon, saying, “Why do people criticize? It’s not about you – it’s about them. When you get criticized, here’s what to do with it – don’t take it personally. Praise can be just as harmful (but sneakier) – don’t take it personally.
