A Friend Most True

I need to know if you’re my true friend,
will you be by my side until the end?
Can I tell you my secrets deep,
and trust them in your heart you’ll keep?
We are neither of us without our flaws,
can you accept mine as I will yours?
I’ll be a shoulder to cry on when you’re blue,
will you be there for me when I need you?
No matter how busy I will make time for you,
if you are busy will you make time for me too?
I will take your hand and comfort your tears,
will you hold me and soothe my fears?
I will give you joy and many warm smiles,
can we share that even across many miles?
I will not forget what’s important to you,
will you remember what’s important to me too?
With you my most favourite things I’ll share,
If only I know do you truly care?
If you can accept me as I do you,
then I will know you are a friend most true.

If only I had told you more often that I loved you

If only I had been more patient

If only I had done something, anything to prevent you becoming ill

If only I had worked less and been with you more

…If only as I sit here today I had less ‘if only’s’

Today I know that ‘if only’s’ won’t bring you back

And I believe that you knew how much I loved you

I know that the past is gone, never to be changed

So now I must let go and stop the ‘if only’

Otherwise I will grow older and forever lonely

The past is gone and the future can be

As strong as the past….it is all down to me.

So goodbye to the ‘if only’ and hello to ‘what if’

And look at the changes within my control

Not ones that have passed which are forever gone

Yes, my life is bereft of the person I love

But I know you will guide me from the heavens above

So goodbye to yesterday yet not the memories

And hello to today and that feeling of hope….

I Shall Be Glad

Of one who has lost hope,
If I can help a brother up
Some difficult long slope
That seems too steep for tired feet to go,
If I can help him climb
Into the light upon the hill’s far crest,
I shall begrudge no time
Or strength that I spend, for well I know
How great may be his need.
If I can help through any darkened hour,
I shall be glad indeed.

For I recall how often I have been
Distressed, distraught, dismayed,
And hands have reached to help, and voices called
That kept me unafraid.
If I can share this help that I have had,
God knows I shall be glad.

My baby died last Thursday.

I don’t know what to do

My heart is lost and lonely

It doesn’t have a clue.

Oh, where are you baby?

Are you missing me, too?

Are you lost inside my dreams now

With my memories and blues?

I look for you on corners.

I see you everywhere

I see you in the birds now

Sailing in the air.

When I look into the sunset

Beyond the trees, and clouds, and sky

I see your face shining brightly

But I’m still asking why.

Why did you have to leave me

With my broken heart?

I don’t know what to do now.

It’s true that sometimes life is full

Of trying circumstances.

And sometimes we must struggle

For just minimal advances.

Despite events that slow us down

And magnify our worries.

We must learn that progress is

A word that seldom hurries.

To try to grasp the total picture

Is a strong temptation.

Often we attempt too much

And add to our frustration.

Loving out before us

All the things that must be done 

May be harder than to focus

On a single one.

Don’t approach so many tasks

That all your hopes are gone.

A single step will lead you to

“This past year has been a journey to say the least and I do not think I would have gotten through it if it weren’t for the support from friends family and Widows Quest. Your site helped me see that I was not the alone and that means so much to me. I wanted to share a poem I wrote for him, actually it is more for his mom and I because it reflects so much of what we feel. Again thank you for your postings they have helped in so many ways. 

One Year Later

One year later and you are still gone
One year later and it still seams so wrong

Do you look down at me at night
Do you see my candle so big and so bright

The candle I burn reminds me of you
The candle I hope you would burn too

 Not a day goes by that I don’t think of you
Hoping you’d come back so the days won’t be so blue

Once an earth Angel who was sent up above
You now watch over all those you dearly love

Though sometimes in my mind I forget you’re dead
But I make sure to keep you living in my head

I love you so much it makes me so sad
That I can’t hear you say it back – the one thing that would make me glad

I know you are still with me; your love is within my heart
Though life is no longer present, our souls will never part.
