The Diana Effect

Yesterday was the anniversary of Princess Diana’a passing from this world. It will always be a day which affects me, ironically it is my sisters birthday as well. It always amazes me that someone you have never me, can have such a profound impact on your life but Diana did that for me. I was a huge fan…
Not in the sense that I could see she was not perfect but because she wasn’t perfect! So many times on television you see the “perfect” celebrity who makes you feel inadequate somehow…she was imperfect and that is why I related to her.

Prince William on Bereavement

I was a huge Princess Diana fan, and I have felt so deeply for her two boys since her death in 1997. As I often remark I cannot imagine going through your grief under the public eye, I cannot imagine doing that as a child.
This week Prince William became the Royal Patron of the Childrens Bereavement Charity and spoke about his grief as a child. I particularly connected to two things that he said.
1) Initially, there is a sense of profound shock and disbelief that this could ever happen to you. Real grief often does not hit home until much …read more

Songs For Grief and Loss

Music is a huge part of my life – it cheers me up, it makes me sad, it makes me dance, it makes me relax. The words can be so powerful when you are grieving and going through a bereavement of someone close.
I came across a site which shows the lyrics of songs for grief and loss  – is your favourite on there? I saw Candle in the Wind and that reminded me of how Elton John re wrote the words for Princess Diana’s funeral – I don’t know anyone who didn’t cry at those lyrics.
If you have written …read more

10th Anniversary of Princess Diana’s Death

As many of you know I was a huge fan of Diana, she was a huge part of my influential years. Today see’s the 10th anniversary of her death, ironically it is also my sisters birthday.
Diana will always be for me

A beacon of hope, a beacon for the underprivileged people.
A beacon of empathy….in a world that seems never to have enough time, she always did. She brought to the fore the need for all of us to be charitable, for all of us to think of others.
A beacon of beauty…. but in a natural way. Her smile could light any …read more

Is there New Evidence on Princess Diana’s death?

I was a huge admirer of Princess Diana and remember the wave of mourning when we woke up to find that we had lost the “People’s Princess”. I have this hope that one day she can rest in peace and yet like every other person there is that little gnawing thought whether there is more to the story. I just read on the Sydney Morning Herald the following
“A French firefighter who could hold vital clues suggesting Princess Diana’s death was not an accident has come forward to give evidence at an inquest into how she died.
Christophe Pelat claims to …read more

Concert for Diana

I am watching an incredible concert that Prince Harry and Prince William have organised to celebrate the life of their “mum”  – Diana, Princess of Wales.
Now I have to say I grew up at the time of the Dianamania and I was – and still am – a huge fan. Watching the concert I am thinking

What a wonderful celebration, memorial of a life.
What character to hold the concert on a day that would have been their mum’s 46th birthday and allow the world into their feelings.
How the world misses a woman that had so much compassion, love for the underdog …read more
