I was a huge Princess Diana fan, and I have felt so deeply for her two boys since her death in 1997. As I often remark I cannot imagine going through your grief under the public eye, I cannot imagine doing that as a child.
This week Prince William became the Royal Patron of the Childrens Bereavement Charity and spoke about his grief as a child. I particularly connected to two things that he said.

Music is a huge part of my life – it cheers me up, it makes me sad, it makes me dance, it makes me relax. The words can be so powerful when you are grieving and going through a bereavement of someone close.
I came across a site which shows the lyrics of songs for grief and loss  – is your favourite on there? I saw Candle in the Wind and that reminded me of how Elton John re wrote the words for Princess Diana’s funeral – I don’t know anyone who didn’t cry at those lyrics.

I was a huge admirer of Princess Diana and remember the wave of mourning when we woke up to find that we had lost the “People’s Princess”. I have this hope that one day she can rest in peace and yet like every other person there is that little gnawing thought whether there is more to the story. I am watching an incredible concert that Prince Harry and Prince William have organised to celebrate the life of their “mum”  – Diana, Princess of Wales.
Now I have to say I grew up at the time of the Dianamania and I was – and still am – a huge fan. Watching the concert I am thinking

What a wonderful celebration, memorial of a life.
What character to hold the concert on a day that would have been their mum’s 46th birthday and allow the world into their feelings.
