Here are 10 things that I would suggest, that have worked for me when I have struggled to sleep – most tire you out so you are ready for some shut eye, but if you have any to share please leave a comment

Read a book

Clean out your wardrobe and put some order to it

Make yourself a hot chocolate.

Write a letter to yourself about your thoughts

Put on your favourite relaxing CD

Sleep in a different room – they say a change is as good as a rest!

Look through the photo albums and allow your mind the chance to remember

Have a hot bath, with candles and relax

Make a list of 10 goals you would like to achieve

Curl up on the sofa and watch a black and white romantic movie and lose yourself in your thoughts

As I said there is no right answer, it is what works for you. I always think if you cannot sleep, just get up and do something constructive, something that is tiring to help bring on the feeling of sleep. But what are you thoughts and tips of the widows trade?

Yesterday, my mum returned home. In some ways it is nice to have the house to myself again..but in another way the house seems so empty. I also miss looking after someone, and the loneliness makes you think of the times when you were so happy. The grief starts to try and take hold. So how have I tried to keep it at bay today?

Well, I have tried to keep both physically and mentally busy. I walked to the shop this morning before work, and then at work I created a list of 10 things that I just HAD to do. Each time I achieved one, I ticked it off and gave an outward smile to convince my mind that I was succeeding.

Has it worked…well, yes it has. I have had a very productive day. I feel tired, as though my mind has worked overtime but I have done it. Has the emptiness gone away – no, but it is under control and after all that is great progress.

Tonight I am going to have a hot bubble bath, play some music and have some candles lit to try and relax. I am going to pamper myself with face masks etc….. I may even phone one of my most optimistic friends – she always gets me feeling positive….
