Balance of being grateful for having loved with the anger at losing the love of your life.

Balance of crying with pain and smiling to show that life goes on.

Balance of honouring the memory and allowing ourselves to feel love again.

There are many other balances like talking to friends but understanding that you cannot talk endlessly…the reason I talk about balance is that there will be times when the balance is not right…that is ok, as long as you learn to recognise it or have friends that can help you regain that balance.

In fact when you think of all the emotional issues that you are trying to balance it is no wonder that one will occasionally become unbalanced. Just like the seesaw you need to either push yourself back up or release some weight of worry. However, just like a seesaw for each low remember there will be another high….

Jane’s only desire was to raise the awareness of cancer, she spent her last years raising millions for charity. Biking across the US for example, despite her body failing.

The Bishop of Leeds, the Right Reverend Arthur Roche, described Mrs Tomlinson’s battle with cancer as “Olympian”.

He said: “She was a bright beam of light in the midst of a darkness that can so often accompany a terminal illness.

“She fought a very brave fight, of Olympian proportions, right to the end of her earthly life and has left us a legacy of courage when faced with difficulty; of striving for others despite one’s own important needs.”

Jane’s spirit is a lesson to all of us, we never know what cards we will be dealt with – but it is not what happens to us, it is how we deal with what happens that matters. Jane’s positive approach to life and death will mean a legacy that will live on forever……

I think it is because I think of all the ordinary people who have died, the soldiers etc who die without the world really knowing. The news that Ingmar Bergman the film director has died is intriguing for me because of his “dark films”His childhood had been strict and that lead to enormously emotional films. I was touched by this statement

“A lot happened when Ingrid died,” Nyrerod told The Associated Press. She said Bergman continued to feel the presence of von Rosen after she died, and abandoned his view of death as the absolute end of the human soul.

“He deserted that altogether and instead hoped he could rejoin her,” she said”

Death has such a profound effect on our lives, how we think, how we love…..but no matter our level of celebrity death causes us pain. Celebrity may bring you riches, but it can never get rid of the pain of losing a loved one.

Joined a local village group that meets each Thursday for coffee.

Started to play bowls.

Been on a couple of cruises – Dad didn’t really like the idea of cruises so this is a real treat for her.

Learned to do things around the house, including driving the ride on lawn mower!

She still has tears in her eyes when we talk about Dad, but she has learned to enjoy a very different life. I asked her how she has found the strength. She shared 2 reasons which I think may help others.

She saw the effect of losing Dad on my sister and I. She wants to live as long as possible to help us through and also to watch over us.

Dad loved her very much and would have wanted, indeed trusted that she would live on….she feels that he is willing her each day.
