I started to think about who I am and who I have become. Sometimes change or trauma can really change you without you even being aware. I like to believe I haven’t changed but in reality that is not true…in fact I believe that it cannot be true. Trauma, death, change all make you think differently. What was important is no longer at the core of who you are…..maybe to find true peace you need to understand those changes and evolve your life to fit who you are now?

Does that make sense?

We become attached to our particular way of doing things. The trouble comes when we cling to an old method that we have outgrown. We feel bogged down and then stuck when our personal development potential is being limited by an outdated method. If your method feels more like a crutch than a tool, it’s time to take an objective look at it. Is the method in question bringing you peace and joy? Is it helping your personal growth, or is it just a familiar and comfortable habit of thought?”

In yesterdays positive thinking carnival there was a post from Walt on Pain is a Highly Concentrated Thought. This had a lasting effect on me especially the quote “The solution to that would be to not think so much on a bad experience, but rather if the thought comes up, think about what good it did for you.” The post goes on to say

“Remember that time when you had a headache or your foot hurt? It hurt and hurt mainly due to your concentration on the pain. But, when your focus and attention shifted to something else, the more you had your attention away from your pain, the less pain you felt!”

At first I thought….uhm hitting your foot is hardly the same as losing your loved one…and then as I started to think more about it, it is true. Look through my blog posting, it is about filling that void in your life with other things to look forward to, in this context an opportunity to move the focus of your pain onto something that creates enjoyment. As hard as it seems, the post is right. We can concentrate too hard on the pain that we are feeling and not enough on something that can create a diversion, a moment of relief. Maybe we don’t like to think of it like that, but in reality we all need to find a focus…..
