Widows Quest

The What if Question?

July 11, 2007 by Anna Farmery

We spend so much time thinking….if only or what if we had, when in reality we cannot change the past.girlfence.JPG Each time I start to think “What if? (in relation to the past)”  I stop and immediately  turn it into thinking about the future rather than the past….

So I think…What if I booked a holiday next year? What if I learned a new language? What if I did more volunteer work…

I smile at the fact I am tricking my brain, but it does help you to focus on the future rather than dwellin  g on the past.

I keep thinking “what if” also. Sometimes it can drive me crazy because I blame myself for not making my husband see the doctor two years ago. I keep thinking “what if he went sooner?” “what if I made him stop smaoking?’ And it just keeps going on and on.

Those “what if’s” can become endless. So I ike your suggestion to turn them into possitive “what if’s”. So what if I went back to college?….
