Top 5 Reasons I want to Live

See – my positive thinking starts now!

  1. Life is short, life is precious and it’s important that you live each moment like your last.
  2. Family who love me, who want me to find happiness.
  3. To experience the dreams that I still have – the dream of visiting Alaska, for instance.
  4. I may have lost my loved one, but he would want more than anyone for me to find happiness. I don’t want to let him down.
  5. To create a legacy that I can be really proud of, one that will be remembered forever.

Great list. We all needed to be reminded on our hardest days that we have so much to live for!

  2. Sometimes it is the simple things in life that makes living more important. Don’t live life alone.

Hi Anna. We lost my Dad almost two years ago now. My Mom lives with us now. She has her good and bad days, as you might expect. I wish I could get her to maybe read some of your posts. Do not know if it would help her, but it certainly couldn’t hurt her either.

This post just bleeds inspiration. Especially number 1. It is so easy to take life for granted, but when you realize that everyday can be your last and you live it that way life seems to be more enjoyable.

Great list! I can relate to # 4 (or rather my mother can) because after my father died, my mother wanted to give up. She wanted to die because she didn’t want to live without him. She couldn’t see going on. Thankfully, she realized that this is not what my father would have wanted, of course. Loosing a loved one is excruciatingly difficult.

Thanks for reminding us that life is precious.

THANK YOU ALL for all the great comments. One thing this shows is how universal grief is to us all! If any of you have topics you would like me to cover for your family members then just let me know at anna@b5media.com I write this blog to help others as part of my grief process so please tell anyone about the site

your reasons mostly make me sad. don’t live because of others–making your family, pleasing your dead spouse, impressing other generations.
its your life–exist for yourself only.

and just because life is short and precious does no make it worth living.

  12. anna says:

Kate – I agree that you should want to live for yourself, sometimes though when you in the dark days you need to look at other reasons. I can’t agree that life is sometimes not worth living….without living I would have not loved the way I did, my life may seem hard at the moment but through witnessing death and understanding the pain that is left behind…I do value life. I know I wish he was still alive to share it…
Is that how you feel that life is not worth living?
