Online Meeting for Widows and Widowers

As we have enjoyed meeting online for the last two months, I thought I would try and arrange a session for July. If you want to speak to other people who understand about grief, who will listen and share their tips on coping with bereavement…then why not sign up at our widows quest wiki. On the site are 3 suggested dates 2nd, 3rd or 4th July….let me know which one would work for you. We base it on 6pm New York time.

What do I get out of these sessions?

The feeling of belonging. That I am with people who just…well understand.
Happiness. People are so good at sharing stories and often such funny memories which make me laugh.
The feeling of not being alone. Listening to others show me that grief is like a roller coaster….that I am not weak, I am just grieving.

I do hope that you will join us….it is very informal and totally free!

The Grief Balloon

My friend is a widow who has 3 small children and I often write about how much I learn from them…yesterday yet again they showed me a wonderful way of coping with grief.

When I went around the eldest boy was blowing up balloons, after blowing up about 6 in a row he then painstakingly tied ribbon to them….he then gathered them up and asked us to go into the garden. He smiled as he let each one fly away in the wind.

I asked him what the balloons were for and he said “His mum had given him a pack of balloons so that when he felt sad, when he missed his Dad so much, when he wanted help to cope…then he could blow his worries into the balloon. He could then send the worries away and his Dad would deal with them for him…you see his Dad was still there for his son.”

Wow…I never fail to be stunned by the innocence and wonder of children

Life Unbroken

For the telephone session I am going to send you all a calendar so we can plan when we can all be together….so it won’t be on Sunday. The joys of arranging a session with friends all across the world – but hey it will be worth it.

In the meantime I thought I would share another grief poem that I saw at a funeral this week

Life Unbroken

Death is nothing at all.

I only slipped into the next room.

I am I and you are you.

Whatever we were to each other, that we are still…

Why should I be out of mind becuase I am out of sight?

I am waiting for you for an interval.

Somewhere very near, just around the corner.

All is well….

Talking About Our Grief

I would like to ask your opinion. Mary cannot make a Sunday call and I feel that she has been such a wonderful part of the community that we should change the time. So couple of ideas.

I can do next Saturday next week (not this week) or

What about a night during the week? If we made it next Thursday I don’t mind a late time say midnight or 1am London time which would be 7pm or 8pm New York time or would it need to be later?

Hopefully it is only this first time that will prove difficulty I just would like all of us together the first time even if people can’t make it in the future…..we all have helped each other so much with our grief and would hate anyone to be on the outside of the first ever Widows Quest meeting.

What do you all think?
